Technology innovator seeks to address email security issues and restore online trust for government organizations and businesses
Singapore, 04 March 2009 - BoxSentry, an innovative email security solutions provider, will be participating at the 5th Government Information Forum, a government conference slated from the 4th – 6th of March in Singapore. BoxSentry joins government thought leaders, practitioners and industry experts from around the world to explore efficient information strategies that will enable them to provide next generation public services. As a speaker, BoxSentry hopes to highlight the growing vulnerability caused by email false positives and their impact on governments.
The issues of spam, malware and more importantly false positives (legitimate email which are incorrectly classified as spam) have plagued users for years. Government agencies, including businesses worldwide, receive increasingly large volumes of emails per day, including spam and viruses. Consequently anti-spam engines have had to be set to be more aggressive in their blocking. Unfortunately the solutions themselves have become part of a new problem – false positives.
“To date there has been little to no awareness about the issue of false positives as these cases have been hard to identify. However, as the number of government services increase the use of email for G2G, G2B and G2C applications, reputation and online authentication become vitally important,” Manish Goel, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BoxSentry commented. According to Ferris Research, there are thousands of business critical emails lost by anti spam filters every year and this could cost companies up to US$3.5 billion per year!
Over the years, Singapore has grown into one of the most connected Asian countries with over 79% of households owning personal computers and 74% with access to the Broadband service. The InfoComm Authority of Singapore (IDA) has targeted that by 2015, 90% of Singaporean households will have connectivity. As frontrunners in G2C technology adoption, the Singapore Government and IDA recognize this issue and have set up a special task force named ‘Singapore Spam Control Resource Centre’, as well as implemented various laws, in an attempt to combat this issue.
Mr. Manish Goel, CEO, BoxSentry, said, “As the number of households with connectivity has increased in Singapore in recent years, we have see a rapid migration to e-Government services too. This is hardly surprising as we have moved into a digital age where citizens opt for convenience and ease in many aspect of their lives. However, email security issues have increased as well and we face the problem of people losing trust in online services. It’s a worrying trend that needs to be urgently addresses.”
More interesting trends and issues will be discussed at the Government Information Forum, which will see an impressive line-up of attendees, including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of National development, Ministry of Trade and Development amongst others. This event is organized by FutureGov, the largest regional community of government, education and healthcare officials in Asia Pacific and supported by BoxSentry, IBM, EMC and RedHat amongst others.
